Paid parking

Paid parking near the Library is managed by the National Capital Authority. All money collected from pay parking and infringements is directed to the Australian Government's Consolidated Revenue Fund.

Paid parking hours are 8:30 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday (excluding ACT public holidays).

Paid parking machines are on-site, or you can use the EasyPark parking app. Available for download from Google Play and Apple Store.

Accessible parking spaces are available free of charge for Australian Disability Parking Permit holders. Find out more about accessibility at the Library.

Short-stay (4 hours) parking

A short-stay car park is located near the Library entrance, off Parkes Place West.

  • Hourly parking is $4.00 per hour.

Long-stay (all day) parking

A long-stay car park is located on Parkes Place, towards the lake (behind Questacon). A smaller all-day car park is located off King Edward Terrace.

  • Hourly parking is $4.00 per hour
  • All-day parking is $17.00 per day

Walking, cycling and e-scooters

  • We are in the Parliamentary Triangle. In walking distance of Old Parliament House, the National Gallery of Australia, the National Portrait Gallery.
  • Bike racks are near the front entrance and in the carpark off King Edward Terrace. We are on the Lake Burley Griffin bike route and near other routes in the Parliamentary Zone.
  • E-scooters can also be hired and used in the Parliamentary Zone.

Buses

We are easily accessible by public transport. The closest bus stops are on King Edward Terrace and Commonwealth Avenue. Plan your trip using the Transport Canberra Journey Planner.

Taxi and rideshare

Taxis and rideshare services can drop you off or pick you up at the Library's front entrance. Need help booking? Ask our front desk staff for assistance.

Schools and groups

Drop-off and pick-up zones for school and group buses are directly in front of the Library. There is no street parking for buses near the Library. Bus parking zones are available on the far side of the Questacon building.
